Cleveland Indians have worst attendance in Major League Baseball through 16 games

By: Eric Ristow, newsnet5.com

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Indians have a three-game lead in the AL Central over the Detroit Tigers, taking both games of the double header Monday against the Chicago White Sox. But the first place Indians are having trouble getting fans to attend games at Progressive Field.

With 16 home games under their belts, the Tribe is averaging just 14,665 fans per game. That is dead last in Major League Baseball. In fact, the next closest team is the Chicago White Sox and their attendance is 19,911.

This is a far cry from the major league record of 455 consecutive sellouts at Progressive Field in the 90s. From June 12, 1995, through April 4, 2001 the Indians sold out 455 straight home games, and that doesn’t include playoff games, which were sold out from 1995-1999 and 2001.
